Montreal-based
hero a study in hierarchy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Humans need a way to measure
themselves against their peers in order to create command hierarchies
and determine their place in society," says Montreal
author Christian-Eric Falardeau of his new
release PAUL III OF MONTREAL. "Revolutions act on this need,
constantly renewing social models, acting like kidneys, bringing new blood
to the top."
Falardeau points out that societies are based
on arbitrary rules, and only through some sort of revolution can
these rules be changed (whether it be large- or small-scale). During
these revolutions leaders will emerge, often acting as scapegoats for
the population as a whole.
PAUL III OF MONTREAL uses this theme as a
backdrop for the evolution of one very gifted man as he rises high in his society
and how he and the world around him relate to each other.
"The fact that people are constantly
measuring themselves against their peers (not necessarily openly or
even knowingly) to determine who is 'better' has always fascinated
me," says Falardeau. "This is a
normal process whereby one determines his or her true place in
society. It is interesting to watch this process play itself out in
day-to-day life."
Falardeau's aim is to show readers how important social status has become
in our society. "In professional sport, for example, winning is
everything. If people loved the game for the game itself, and not the
result, absurd salaries would never be allowed to be paid," says
Falardeau. "In society, people should
start to observe themselves in order to better understand their true
motivations and their associated emotions."
Christian-Eric Falardeau
was born in 1968 on a little farm near the village
of Beaudry, now part of Rouyn-Noranda, in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (north-west of Quebec).
In 1990 he graduated from Sherbrooke University with a degree in computer science, embarked on a career as a
programmer analyst and, later on, became a software development
manager. He retired from the industry in March 2002.
