Helixes of Life
State of the project
The novel is its final stage (first readers then final revisions) in the original
French version. Translation should start sometime in August.

Summary
Humans have progressed. Their molecular mastery and their deep
knowledge of genetics have allowed them to perform many great feats,
including curing cancer. However, are they ready to face all threats? The
humans are not the only ones to evolve and perfect their defense
mechanisms… and attack tools. A plant has developed a new
photosynthesis system to store energy using a more efficient version of
sugar. However, the new technique requiring more light, it is more fragile
than its traditional counterparts. That state made it cultivate powerful attack
means. For the animal kingdom, this is bad news as the new plant is not
edible, although it has quite a sweet taste!

This plan uses its roots as a weapon. It injects powerful mutagens in the
soil’s water to kill its neighbors or render them sterile. Some scientists
believe that it succeeds in transmitting the instructions leading to the
production of the new chlorophyll using a retrovirus. Therefore, if its
neighbors survive, they risk becoming a new version of the plant. Having
been cultivated briefly by humans, and transplanted on every continent, the
aggressive plant has pulled ahead. Are humans sufficiently advanced
technologically to eradicate the threat before it destroys their society? Is the
species itself in danger?

Among several government initiatives, one wants to use a discovery in
practical physics allowing the capture of photons coming from the past and
thus “see” into the distant past. How did humans become humans? Could
there be, in the past, a pivotal moment that would give them a hint on how to
fight their new vegetal enemy? In the advent that they cannot prevent the
domination of the new inedible plant, how could they adept to survive?

In the midst of all the social and cultural effects of the war against humanity’
s number one enemy, un group of researchers — Alasta, Gaumeon, Ellemte
and Quirion — guided by their chief Cephylion are tackling the study of the
past using the photon grabber. What will they discover? How will they react
to what they see? How will any of it help them in their quest for survival as a
culture or as a species?
